Transforming constitutional guarantees into lived realities for women and youth across Kenya

Who We Are

Forum for Empowerment and Community Awareness (FECA) is a Kenyan non-governmental organization founded in 2019, dedicated to translating constitutional guarantees and global commitments into tangible improvements for women and youth.

We operate across 7 counties in Kenya, focusing on regions with significant development challenges. Our approach combines grassroots empowerment with strategic policy engagement, ensuring that communities are not just beneficiaries but active participants in their own development.

๐ŸŽฏMulti-Level Intervention

FECA operates at individual, community, organizational, and policy levels, recognizing that sustainable change requires coordinated action across all layers of society.

๐ŸคCommunity-Centered Design

We support Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Beach Management Units (BMUs), and households, fostering peer support and collaborative action that builds lasting community resilience.

๐ŸŒSystemic Change

Through advocacy and policy engagement, we influence national policies and systemic factors, creating enabling environments that support grassroots empowerment and sustainable development.

Why Holistic Integration Matters

Building comprehensive solutions for truly empowered, inclusive futures

FECA's vision of Empowered, Inclusive Futures is rooted in the lived realities of women, youth, and marginalized households across Kenya. Our programs demonstrate how collective action can transform communities.

Yet economic empowerment alone is not enough. The challenges our members face โ€” retrogressive cultural norms, climate disruptions, limited market access, and gender-based barriers โ€” are compounded by gaps in mental health, nutrition, and reproductive health. Addressing these issues holistically is essential for building resilient, inclusive societies.

๐Ÿ’ฐ

Livelihoods & Inclusive Economies

Women in aquaculture and farming sustain households while navigating economic pressure. Integrating mental health support strengthens resilience. Nutrition education ensures healthier families. Reproductive health awareness helps balance income with informed health decisions.

โš–๏ธ

Governance & Rights

Retrogressive norms silence women's voices and restrict access to resources. Positioning mental health and reproductive health as rights issues empowers women to challenge stigma. Nutrition advocacy pushes for policies supporting maternal health and food security.

๐ŸŒ

Climate & Resilience

Climate shocks disrupt livelihoods and leave women traumatized. Embedding psychosocial resilience helps communities cope with loss. Nutrition-sensitive farming secures diets during crises. Reproductive health meets women's needs during emergencies.

Creating Holistic Empowerment

By weaving mental health, nutrition, and reproductive health into our existing programs, we create a holistic model where women earn income, sustain healthy families, advocate for their rights, and build climate resilience โ€” offering donors a clear pathway to support systemic, community-led transformation aligned with Kenya's national priorities and the SDGs.
